Ivy uses various mediums and styles:
pencil, India Ink, watercolor, watercolor pencil and watercolor
crayons, oils (including master's techniques, and oil and acrylic mixed
media), acrylic, airbrush and silk painting. she believes Art is like
Science, it is all an experiment. It is the "experiment" she enjoys
rather than the finished product.
Up until college, Ivy felt she could not
draw, putting color on paper was usually a disaster. In college she
took her 1st art class, a charcoal pencil class. As most people who
believe they "can not draw and are untalented in that area", she was
surprised to realize everyone has the ability and potential to become
an artist. Several years later she took a drawing class and loved it so
much she started studying with one on one classes with well known local
Ashland, Oregon Artist, Craig Honeycutt. From that point on, the
majority of her learning process consisted of self developed methods,
and classes here and there, as Art is an ongoing learning process, even
for Art Instructors.
Further instruction in the art field
included Life Drawing classes with a Professor who studied under
Matisse, and taught art to art professors at OSU, Portland, Oregon;
Graphic Design; Photography and Darkroom.
Growing up, Ivy's parents, movie producers
and photographers, traveled, making lasting friendships with Hopi and
Navajo families that she still maintains. This has influenced her
subject matter, as she enjoys painting Indians and landscapes.
Living in Oregon was ideal for capturing
beautiful scenery and wildlife on Ivy's canvass'. While living in
Oregon, Ivy worked as Head of Photography for a Tillamook, Oregon
newspaper; did wedding and freelance photography; extensive darkroom
lab work and Graphic Art, designing and production of catalogs, product
cards, and product artwork for KDE Toys in Medford, Oregon; also Tint
Type photography and darkroom work for a studio in Jacksonville, Oregon.
In Indiana, Ivy did Paranormal Photography
for a Scientific Research Team, also Web Designing and Computer Art.
Other various positions held were; working
for and weekend manager for an Art store, where she also was an Art
